1st - King Arthur The Legend (17.5.10) Owner R & G Rosser. 10 month old, red dog, beautiful profile, well filled head, good eye, lovely reach of neck, short back, excellent front, nice hindquarters with good bend of stifle. Covered the ground well but slightly close behind when moving. Overall a lovely puppy in beautiful condition. Good mouth.

2nd- Kilacabar Rock and Rolla (22.06.10) Owner Mr D. Young. 9 month old substantive white puppy, nice sweeping profile, well placed ears, good eye, he was overweight which spoilt his lines, good tail carriage, nice front, excellent bend of stifle, lovely cat feet, slight mouth fault. Moved well and covered the ground a little close behind.

3rd- Fortifiers Firefoot For Afanbol

Class 2 - Junior Dog
1st - Busell's Black Magic at Ounsdale (11.08.10) Owner Mr & Mrs K & A Goodwin. This was my CC winner in the dogs and best opposite sex in show. This tri coloured one year old dog was impressive. His head has a beautiful sweeping profile, well filled head, good ear placement and good mouth. His front was good, he had a good bend of stifle. He showed to perfection and he moved well. Lovely cat feet. I look forward to seeing his progress through the shows this year.

2nd- Barking  At The Moon With Bilboen (24.10.09) Owner Mr & Mrs M & B Hannum. Substantial white dog, nice profile, lovely reach of neck, well filled head. Correct ear setting, good mouth. PUPPY DOG (3 entered, 0 absent)

1.  Tamila & Wyatt’s  CHARDAICE SMOOTH CRIMINAL AT ETALIMAI – 11-month-old smart looking black brindle and white dog pup. He had a long, turned, and filled head with good muzzle strength and a good mouth.  His ears were well placed helping in his overall front on expression.  Nice hind angulation when he stood properly.  He tended to stand bunched up as his feet kept slipping on the wooden floor when he stood properly.  Tight cat feet.  Could use a little better lay of shoulder.  When he learns to strike a pose he will be hard to beat.  Slightly underweight; one to watch in the future when he bodies up. BEST PUPPY IN SHOW.

2.  Taylor’s  RAGNAROK HEIMDALLR – 8-month-old large, substantial white dog pup.  Powerful wide head with tiny wicked eyes giving good front on expression. Correct bite.  Profile could be a touch stronger.  Well made, large boned pup with good hind angulation and strong second thigh.  Tight feet.  Handler made the most of him.

3.  Rosser’s KING ARTHUR THE LEGEND 6-month-old small red & white dog pup.  This youngster had a powerful head with a good profile and good width of head.  His incisors were over with plenty of room.  His construction was a bit loose and caused him to move wide in the front and rear.

JUNIOR DOG (5 entered, 2 absent)

1.  Foster’s BARKING AT THE MOON WITH BILBOEN (NAF) – 13-month-old white dog.  Tremendous sweeping profile with tiny wicked eyes.  Correct mouth.  Well made young dog with good balance but needs to finish maturing in body still.  I’m sure that will come with time. Moved parallel coming and going when he finally settled.  Gave his handler a lot of hard work before he decided to keep all paws on the floor and move true.  I look forward to this dog matured completely and settled.  BEST DOG, RESERVE BEST IN SHOW & BEST OPPOSITE SEX.

2.  Strinati’s CANOLBARTH JAN’S JUMBO – 16-month-old black brindle & white dog.  Nice wide head with good ear set.  Mouth under.  Balanced with good angulations and short back.  Moved wide coming and close going.

1.  Griffith’s HENTARW WELSH WARRIOR FROM PENPYCH – Compact black brindle and white dog. Nice profile with strong muzzle.  Perfect bite.  Powerfully made, short backed dog with good hind angulation.  Straight front but could use a little bit more lay back in shoulder.  Moved parallel coming and close going. A quality dog and a top contender on the day.

2.  Cronin’s PAMJODALES BYNACK PRINCE – Large, upstanding white dog that still needs to mature completely as he is narrow throughout.  Well place ears.  Gentle profile, mouth under.  Good temperament and a happy showboy.

OPEN DOG (3 entered, 0 absent)

1.  Howe’s & Sheppard’s RAGNAROK BALDER AT POLANCA – Well known large solid red dog.  Beautiful head shape, power packed head with fill under his eyes down to his nose, good muzzle strength, mouth is his let down.  Well placed eyes and ears giving good front on expression. Lacking animation on the day. Despite his bite, a dog that could not be denied.  A top contender. RESERVE BEST DOG.

2.  Sheehy’s AFANBULL KID ROCK – Large powerful virtuous white dog with a wide head and good finish, slightly browy, correct mouth.  Short backed.  A bit of a handful for his handler but when he settled, moved parallel going and a bit wide coming.

3.  Haase’s BAVAZUELA INGEMAR JOH – Balanced white dog with wide head and a gentle profile.  Mouth under, correctly placed canines.  When moved, he covered the ground buoyantly, parallel coming, close going.

SPECIAL COLOURED DOG OR BITCH (7 entered, 3 absent)

1.  Brooks’  TOTALLY OSBOURNE AT KELLOUACY – Well known large tricolour dog.  Slightly browy profile lacking the power in his head compared to that of his body.  Well place incisors with one tight canine. Alert expression with good earset when he used them.  Powerful dog with loads of bone and substance.  Short, compactly built with good lay of shoulder and adequate hind angulation. Moved parallel with buoyancy. Won this class to spare. Just lost out in final line up.

2.  Atkins’ CWMDULAIS GWYNEB GWYN OF HENTARW – Light boned brindle & white bitch with sweeping profile.  Slightly lacking in underjaw, correctly placed canines.  Good hind angulation, could use a better lay of shoulder. Good tight feet.

2.  Grant & Martin’s CHARDAICE THIS IS IT – Lovely balanced 11-month-old red and white bitch. Powerful yet feminine head with a sweeping profile. Bite incorrect. Squarely built with strong forechest, good lay of shoulder and good hind angulation.  She pushed hard for first place and easily could have switched order on another day.

3.  Thomas’ MOSTAHBULL BINDY SUE – 8-month-old tri-colour bitch with lovely sweeping profile, could use a little more width, bite ok.  Short backed, good hind angulation, slightly upright in the shoulders, down in pasterns but will likely straight up with ag

Bull Terrier Club of Wales Open Show
Sunday 14th March 2010

Judge:
Laura Wendler - Shazam Kennels,  United States of America

I would like to thank the Bull Terrier Club of Wales for inviting me to judge their Open Show.  It was a great honor to judge the show and I appreciate the huge turn out and entry.  A very big part of my heart is in Wales as one of my all time favorite bitches was from Wales.  I purchased Gwladyhaf Queen Bee from Mr. & Mrs. Roy Best in 1997 and Beatrice, as she was called, went on to quickly earn her American Championship and ROM.  She produced two outstanding litters and several champions.  While neither she or Roy are with us any longer, I like to think that they were there in spirit that day watching over the show and bringing us all that lovely sunshine.

I would also like to thank my exceptional ring-steward, Mrs. H. Bloom, for keeping me on track with the different classes, she has a gift for keeping things running smoothly, and Mr. Mike Wiltshire, for being so kind and helpful.  I would be remiss if I did not thank my hosts and long time friends Kelvin and Marilyn Bishop.  They opened their home and hearts to me many years ago and I am thankful to have two such fabulous friends.  I thoroughly enjoyed my visit with them and I think everyone who attended will agree that the gathering at their home after the show was a great time.

Unfortunately, I had a little trouble with my Dictaphone, and am missing a few comments in my critique.  I am sorry for this and will brush up on my recording skills so this doesn’t happen again.

PUPPY DOG
1. #48  Strinati’s  CANOLBARTHS JAN’S JUMBO – full packed up head, good ear placement, short back, good mover.  Slightly down on pasterns, mouth off.
2. #6   Casey’s  KEZNEL RUNNING THUNDER AT WARRADCASSEY – huge black brindle boy, nicely arched head with adequate fill, good bite, moved well. Front slightly turned out at the feet, would like a bit more neck.

JUNIOR DOG
1. #59  George’s CANOLBARTHS CHACCO BLUE – decent tri-colored dog, short backed and decent mover.  A bit on the small side, high in the rear, would like more fill in head, mouth undershot.
2. #20  Llewellyn’s TYSHA ROLLING THUNDER –  happy boy with a good straight front although down on pasterns. Head lacked fill, reverse scissors bite, and was not strong on the move.

POST GRADUATE DOG
1. #36 Potbury’s  RED WARRIOR – Big red dog with a pleasant head and adequate fill.  Ear placement and bite good.  Adequate shoulder and length of back. Very slow on the move perhaps a bit less weight would improve movement.

LIMIT DOG
1. #5 Carter’s KILICABAR CONSTANTINE OF LIQUITUR  - Adequate headed dog with  decent profile and fill.  Keen eye and good front.  Movement coming is better than going.  A bit on the tall side.
2. #57 Woodward’s CHARTAY CROWNING GLORY - Lovely brindle coloring with ears setting properly on top of the head.  Pleasant arching profile.  Canines are instanding and a smaller dog than the class winner.

OPEN DOG
1. #17 Kilpatrick’s REBELSIDE JOHN WAYNE - Beautiful boy!  Good mouth   with a nicely arched profile and plenty of finish.  Would like a bit more fill but certainly adequate.  Lovely neck ending in a nice topline.  Keen eye and good on the move all ways around the ring.  This one had the best overall balance on the day and was very well presented.
BEST DOG  &  BEST IN SHOW
2.
#47  Smalley’s TRUE BRAVADO OF BRIDEN - Very lively boy! Smaller style dog than the winner but with a nicely packed and filled head completed by a good profile and wicked eye.  Topline is good but his movement and severe mouth fault let him down on the day.
RESERVE BEST DOG  &  RESERVE  BEST IN SHOW

SPECIAL COLOURED DOG/BITCH
1. #10 Griffith’s HENTARW WELSH WARRIOR - Big dog for his age.  Huge   impressive head with a good profile and lots of fill.  Level bite and short back, moved well to and from.  Would have liked  a bit more neck and length of leg.
2. #59 George’s CANOLBARTH’S CHACCO BLUE - Lovely headed boy with good ear placement.  A bit upright in shoulder and would have liked a better topline.  Lacked the maturity of the class winner.

VETERAN DOG/BITCH
1. #36 Potsbury’s RED WARRIOR - This senior would have rather been home on the couch enjoying his favorite TV show.  A nice rich deep red lad with a perfect   bite. Slow on the move but got around the ring in decent form.  Would have liked a bit less weight on him but he deserves his cookies at his age! BEST VETERAN
IN SHOW

2. #22 Malden’s LOUKA LADY IN RED SHCM - Beautiful and elegant older gal who seemed to enjoy her time in the ring today.  Pretty neck into a short back. Still has nice tight feet.  Mouth off and not the head of the class winner.

PUPPY BITCH
Best class of the day!  Eight gorgeous bitch puppies.  Keep your eye out for these gals!
1. #37 Price’s KENZEL HOT DIAMOND - What a beauty this girl is! Exceptional profile with fill and finish.  Perfect mouth, wicked expression, and good ear placement.  Lovely length of neck and topline.  Shoulder and front were correct and movement was good all ways around the ring.  Well handled!  Look    for this one to do great things!  BEST BITCH IN SHOW & BEST PUPPY IN SHOW
2. #42 Roff’s BOBUDDY D-DAY - Lovely head with a perfect mouth and small wicked eyes. Short backed and moved adequately. Upright in shoulder. Would like a bit more rise over the loins.

JUNIOR BITCH
This is a class where my recorder didn’t work properly.
1. #16  Jones’s KIAS PRINCESS
2. #15 Jerome’s HARDYSVIEW MISS CERBERUS

POST GRADUATE BITCH
1. #53 Toner’s LLAMELLAR PENNY ARCADE - Lovely girl with a pleasant arching profile, plenty of fill and finish, and a nice eye.  Short back and good tail set.  Stands squarely though a bit overweight on the day.  From the front her feet are slightly out.
2. #19 King’s BOBUDDY PEARLY QUEEN AT BULLBRAZEN - Another      elegant bitch with a good profile, ear placement, and expression.  Moved well although slightly long in back.  Mouth off.

LIMIT BITCH
No critique due to recorder problems.

2. # 4 Carter’s
BUILDON KOOL MAGIC OF LIQUITUR

Bull Terrier Club of Wales Open Show - 14th September 2008
Judge: Andrew H. Brace

I thoroughly enjoyed my day with the Bull Terriers. Whilst the entry was not huge, there were very few absentees and I was pleased with the overall quality, especially in the bitches and the puppies.
This is never an easy breed to judge as finding the right balance between Bull and Terrier is sometimes difficult, and then compromises always have to be made. Not all bites were perfect scissor and I found feet generally to be poor, but wondered why exhibitors do not trim nails. Short nails will never make a bad foot good, but they certainly help the overall appearance. Given the leeway in the Standard, size is a further problem, but I do like dogs to look like dogs and bitches like bitches. Temperaments were excellent.

The three top awards all went to puppies, BIS was Cwmdulais If I Only Knew for Gwynsel; RBIS Eastern Promise at Kilacabar; BOS Lamellar Love Me Do at Llanwenarth.

PD (3) 1. Probert's Lamellar Love Me Do at Llanwenarth, 8 months white in the most brilliant coat and condition, and full of promise. Upstanding stalion male with a natural presence and radiating quality. Excellent down face with already great fill and well placed and carried ears and a wonderful eye and expression, he has a good bite but dentition is a little untidy. Powerful but clean, well crested neck, already well developed forechest, lovely quality bone but feet need to tighten. Well sprung ribs, short coupled, optimum angulation front and back and he moves very well in profile, goes away with power but just needs to tighten in front and drop into his rear as he should do with full maturity. Ended up BD and BOS.

2. Kilpatrick's Eastern Star at Kilacabar, white confident as 1 but has a better bite though his coat was not in as good condition. Excellent head profile, well filled but like 1 his feet need to tighten. not quite the length of upper arm or second thigh as 1, but sound enough when he deigned to cooperate. very typy all through.

3. Gladston's Napiers Bobby Dazzler.
JD (2) 1. Smalley's True Bravado of Briden, beautifully balanced, clean cut white, handsome and very full of himself, and oozing quality. Loved his type as he is an ideal blend of bull and terrier. Beautifully contoured head with wonderful eye and expression, excellent arc and so well filled with a decent mouth. just the right bone for his frame but sometimes he stands a little wide and his feet can tighten. perfect angulation front and back and he was in rock hard condition. despite his exuberance he had moments of brilliance when he posed to throw out a stunning outline. In the challenge I felt there was just that little bit more of the puppy who looked more masculine in the final analysis, but I really like him and will be interested to see how he finishes up. RBD 2. Lhomme's Brigand Brand of Briden, dark brindle and white little brother to 1, heavier all through and by comparison a little dumpy. Excellent head profile with well placed and shaped eye, good fill but undershot bit. Heavy bone, shorter in upper arm than 1, softer in topline and moving, he has a tendency to pace but he has better feet than his brother.

MD (2) 1. Hughe's Kenmillex Dark Myth, masculine dark brindle with decent head, typical eye and correct bite. Clean, strong neck, enough bone and ideal angulation fore and aft but he has a tendency towards the terrier so looked a little leggy for a 2½ year old. Has better feet than most, a well filled forechest and he holds his topline well. Tends to come on a little wide. 2. Lawrence 7 Sakkas' One Shot Silver Lad, mature white with strong powerful head which has a little more sweep and fill than 1 but not the best bite. Heavy bone, well sprung rib, long nails do not help his feet and he tends to soften in topline on the move. Made the best of his by his young handler.

LDF (3) 1. Woodwards' Chartray Crowning Glory, compact brindle & white in the most marvellous condition, fit and hard with a tight-fitting coat. Excellent sweep and fill, correct mouth and he looks at you right. Good bone and feet , well sprung rib, just enough angulation front and back and a brisk mover holding his top line well but could be a little firmer in hock and is a little bossy in front. 2. Carters Kilacabar Constatine, at first glance I thought this white would be a clear winner as his outline and balance really impressed. there is more of him than 1 but he lacks animation and fails to project himself at all, being so laid back about everything. Excellent head type with impressive head profile and fill, but rather large, low set ears tend to detract from his expression. Quality bone  but another who would benefit from a manicure. Excellent angulation front and back, well ribbed and coupled and holds his topline well. Moving he is a little weak in hock. 3. Blakely's Kiladagh Northern Cross at Dazlin, animated top size white, beautifully schooled and really on his toes, if perhaps a little rangy in type. Adequate head but could have a little better defined arc to his profile and he has enough wrinkle. Could have a little more angulation front and back but it is balanced and consequently he moves with great power and a jaunty carriage. Coat not at its best but won the class on his coordinated and determined movement. 2. ley's Fortifer Fallen Forsetti of Kilacabar, brindle & white out of a smaller mould but more compact than 1. Good sweep of profile but could be a little better filled and his reluctance to use his ears does not help his expression. Enough bone but again feet could be better and are not helped by long nails. Excellent rear angulation but a little short in upper arm so not the scope on the move of 1 but carried himself quite steadily. 3. Kilpatrick's Dust In The Wind Opal Plast.
SP COLOURED O D/B (6) 1. C. Crowning Glory. 2. Smalley's Briden Carbon Copy, fit and hard tricolour, balanced and all of a piece. Good head profile with excellent sweep and fill, but preferred the eye of 1 who also had a little more angulation behind. Well ribbed, firm backline, moved out well in profile. 3. Ruff's Bobuddy Dilemma.
V D/B (1) 1. Lawrence & Sakka's Rebecca Silver Gem, 8 years tri, well boned and ribbed, nicely contoured, well filled head with good bite. Well developed forechest, good bone and rib and nicely let down behind. Happy temperament, clearly enjoying her day out, but tends to throw her front about now.
PB (5) The best class of the day for quality. 1. Kilpatrick's Eastern Promise at Kilacabar, lovely quality 8 months white of excellent type all through, substantial yet feminine with very pleasing head type having enough sweep and fill, wonderful eye, good bite and ideal overall balance. Moved out really well holding her topline at all times, and had good drive even though she needs to develop a little in second thigh. Excellent neck, good spring of rib, well filled forechest, quality bone but feet can still tighten. An excellent prospect who finished up winning RBB & RBIS. 2. Blakeley's dazlin Sensation, another quality bitch who matched 1 well for type and size but she just needs to drop into her frame. came into the ring like a coiled spring, utterly in love with life, so much so that sometimes her tail was a little gay. Again excellent head type with good sweep and fill and a wicked eye, nicely arched neck, well put together and a sound and steady mover when she settled. Coat not as clear as 1 but with full maturity should do well. 3. Tidball's Llanwenarth love Potion.
JB (2) 1. Roff's Bobuddy Voodoo illusion, nicely balanced white, excellent eye and down face, good mouth, quality bone and better feet than most that would look even better with shorter nails but comes on rather blousy in front. Good rib, firm topline, pleasing angulation front and back and she moved out well inn profile displaying a confident and happy temperament. 2. Bloom's Abernaki Devils Delight, brindle & white of good overall type and balance. Well filled but not quite the profile arc of 1 and not her rear angulation. Well boned and ribbed, moved steadily.
PGB (4) 1. Edward's Bullimage Kizee, tricolour of excellent type and balance with a beautifully contoured head, distinct down face, well filled with typical eye and expression. Good neck and firmest of backlines and such a sound and steady mover. Lovely bone and feet, coat and skin not at its best on her throat. 2. Probert's Hot Topic at Llanwenarth, the ultimate eye catcher as this white bitch is such a posing machine, throws out a breathtaking outline and was so beautifully conditioned and schooled. feminine head with perhaps not the exceptional sweep of 1 but she scores so heavily in neck, topline and general balance. Not the best of feet and sadly her front movement lets her down badly; such a shame as she oozes quality and has charisma in spades. 3. Lever & Grieves' Barsalino pearly Queen at Mellow.
LB (3) 1. Tidball's Llanwenarth Lost in Love, I really liked this middle sized white bitch for her overall type, balance and correctness but just wished her owner could make her more animated as she just stands there almost apologetically. Excellent head with good sweep and fill, nicely arched neck that flows into a firm backline, she has good bone and rib, ideal angulation front and back and decent feet that would benefit from shorter nails, sound and steady mover. 2. Sheehy's kenmillix So Perfect for Afanbull, brindle more outgoing than 1 and every bit as good in head with lovely sweep and fill and a really super eye and expression. Powerful neck, well developed forechest, balanced outline but when she moves she softens in topline and is rather wide and loose in front. 3. Karta's cause for Conspiracy at Karmara.
OB (2) 1. William's Cwmdulais If I Only Knew for Gwynsel, I was surprised to find this 11 months white bitch in Open but as soon as she came into the ring she filled my eye and held it. Beautiful head profile with excellent sweep and fill, well set and carried ears, wonderful eye and expression and excellent bite. Excels in neck and topline with ideal angulation front and back, good spring of rib and short couplings. Animated and alert without being hyperactive she was on her toes and determined to make an impression. A perfect blend of bull and terrier, at 11 months she radiates type and quality but still has an immaturity about her so you can see she has the scope and somewhere to go. In hard nick she was spotlessly clean and when she moved she did so with purpose and a rare lightness of foot. I loved her and for me she was an easy winner of BIS. shall watch her progress with great interest. 2. Davies' Teirwgwyn Specially Maid for Tytarw, brindle & white with excellent head profile but undershot bite and a very gay tail. Well boned and rib, taut and hard but moving wide in front and not the best of feet.
